As more and more campers are venturing out into the natural beauty of our land, it is super important to remember that you should leave the great outdoors just as you found it. While we humans tend to enjoy having the comforts of home with us on our camping adventures, we also tend to leave our mark on just about everything (which isn't necessarily a good thing). Nature is a delicate balance, and we should always do our best to maintain that balance. Here are some of our tips on how to help keep our beautiful world unspoiled for the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts!
Take A Picture Home, Not Nature
Did you find something really awesome, maybe a neat-looking rock or a pretty shell? Instead of putting it in your backpack to take home, take a picture and put it back where you found it. That way it'll be there for the next camper to enjoy!
Don't Damage The Native Flora
Think twice before you pick that bunch of wildflowers! It may not seem like a big deal, but next season's wildflowers depend on those seeds, as do a lot of native animals. Avoid breaking live branches, carving your name, or putting a nail in a tree to hang your hammock, because this will harm the tree forever, and could even result in killing it eventually.
Avoid Disposable Items
Keep in mind that when you're camping, there is no trash truck or dumpster just around the corner. Any disposable items that you take with you, you're going to have to bring back with you too. This includes any cardboard boxes, butane fuel cans, plastic, food cans, drink containers, and even food scraps and human waste. When these things are left behind, not only do they leave nature looking like a dump, but they can also be really dangerous for wildlife. So if you see litter lying around, pick it up!
There are lots of things we can do to minimize our impact on our beautiful planet as we enjoy the great outdoors! Leaving no trace is not about laws or regulations. Here at NEVERFLAME, we believe that it's an ethical choice and a mindset that encourages us to leave nature in the exact way that we found it for future generations to enjoy!
