Why are we so passionate about flameless options??
Summer has finally arrived, and if you're anything like us, you can't wait to go camping and hit the trails. Camping and hiking are a great way to connect with nature, but it's essential to keep your local safety and environmental restrictions in mind. Starting a forest fire isn't on anyone's list of fun, and we should all do what we can to prevent them.
Burn Restrictions
Burning regulations and restrictions will vary based on local jurisdiction and weather. You'll most often see these restrictions implemented during dry and windy seasons. At these times, starting fires of any kind is forbidden. Ignoring these restrictions could result in accidentally starting a wildfire or steep penalties and fines. These regulations often prohibit the use of:
- Burning brush (leaves, twigs, etc.)
- Campfires
- Portable charcoal grills
- Portable gas stoves
- Fireworks
- Smoking outdoors
Dry Conditions
Even a seemingly small activity, such as ashing a cigarette or using a charcoal grill during a fire season, can quickly become a devastating and sometimes fatal event. When there isn't enough rain, vegetation begins to lose water from the inside out, causing it to die. The trees, plants, and grass then become extremely flammable due to the lack of moisture.
Forest Fires
When the forest vegetation is too dry, fire can spread at a rapid pace. All forest fires are either started naturally or by humans. Lightning strikes and spontaneous combustion are examples of natural fire causes. Natural causes are responsible for around 10-15% of natural wildfires. Humans cause the other 85-90%of wildfires.
Starting a campfire during a fire season, using a charcoal grill, or even smoking outdoors can all seem like innocent activities. Most people don't actually intend on setting the entire forest on fire. They often have good intentions and think it will be safe if they keep a close eye. However, they couldn't be more wrong. When vegetation is brittle and dehydrated, even so much as a tiny ember flying off of a cigarette can set it ablaze. Since the surrounding vegetation is also dry and flammable, the fire rapidly spreads before anyone can stop it.
Flameless Cookware
If you want to go camping, but aren't sure how to cook without fire, you should consider flameless cookware. Flameless cookware is not an electric skillet, and it doesn't use any flammable fuel sources. Instead, it uses a special heating pad that becomes hot when inserted in water. Food is heated to safe temperatures without burning or drying it out.
Camping and hiking are the most fun when done safely. You can still go camping and cook delicious meals without the risk of starting a fire. If you would like to learn more about our NeverFlame cookware, click here to reach out to us today.
